Summer School 2024

Please note that in observance of Juneteenth, there will be no summer school or enrichment program on June 19, 2024.

GBAPS is Committed to ensuring every student in our school community feels engaged, connected and supported! Summer School is a learning opportunity for students to engage in academic and enrichment opportunities all designed to help students stay on track for graduation to become college, career and community ready. GBAPS Summer School is open to all students, even if they are not currently enrolled in a GBAPS School.

We are excited to offer 1/2 and full day opportunities, and free enrichment programming by community partners. Summer School is open for any child, grades 4K-12.

Summer School Guidelines Regarding Inclement Weather

If the heat index is between 90 and 95 degrees:
- Students will be provided with ample amounts of water and will remain in air conditioned spaces as much as possible within buildings.

If students are engaging in physical activity:

- When possible the activities will be moved to a shaded area outdoors or moved indoors.

- Breaks will be provided at least every 30 minutes for about 10 minutes to allow for students to cool down and hydrate. In addition, students will be allowed to take breaks as needed during activities and have access to water.

- Staff are asked to watch and monitor students carefully for signs of heat exhaustion and to call a district nurse if there are concerns.

If the heat index is above 95 degrees:

- All outdoor activities will be moved indoors to air conditioned spaces.

- Water will be provided. - Staff will monitor the building’s temperature to determine the level of physical activity to allow.

- Staff are asked to watch and monitor students carefully for signs of heat exhaustion and to call a district nurse if there are concerns.

If the outdoor Air Quality Index (AQI) is 101 or more, students will remain indoors, including for co-curricular activities.
