Posted on 04/29/2024
Staff, students and community members broke ground Monday, April 29 on the renovations at Del Marcelle Stadium at West High School.

Speakers at the event included Interim Superintendent Vicki Bayer, City of Green Bay Mayor Eric Genrich, and Principal Dexter McNabb.

"Every kid, every student athlete deserves a right to be able to compete, to able to be part of something special," Principal McNabb said. "This is something special."

West High School 10th grader Mikiah Rogina and 9th grader Luke Rissling also shared their appreciation for the renovations.

"I'm very excited for this new track facility," Rogina said. "I'm a band kid, so it will make marching a lot easier on a flat surface."

Rogina said she also is a track athlete and she's looking forward to the benefits of the rubberized surface.

Rissling is a three sport athlete, including football and track. He said he's looking forward to the new weight room, which broke ground back in November 2023, in addition to the renovated stadium facilities.

"I can definitely see that these additions are going to significantly enhance our sports programs here at West," Rissling said. "I'm ecstatic and I'm super happy that they are going to be ready for the fall season."

The stadium renovations will include new synthetic turf, a practice field, restrooms, concession stands, grandstand, press box, scoreboard, storage shed, sound system, and lighting.

This project is one of many happening in the Green Bay Area Public School District thanks community support of the November 2022 referendum.
